Project Nomad
Problem
Every year, thousands of discs are lost on disc golf courses across North America. Lost forever. Wasted potential. We have scorecards. We have leagues. We don’t have a welcome mat.
Inspired by research revealing that people are eager to try disc golf if entry is low-risk and embarrassment-free, I designed Nomad—an immersive NFC-infused online experience that transforms lost discs into welcoming entry points for new players.
Planning
User research revealed three core insights: people want to try disc golf if entry is low-risk and embarrassment-free, uncertainty and time are the biggest barriers, and newcomers value lightweight, non-intrusive support. These findings shaped Nomad’s approach—create an accessible introduction that removes doubt while keeping guidance subtle and voluntary.
Design Execution
The visual system uses soft greens and warm tones to reflect the outdoor setting, while rounded components and intuitive navigation reduce friction. Every screen prioritizes the minimum information needed, letting the sport’s joy speak for itself.
The Impact
Nomad turns lost discs and awkward first encounters with disc golf into simple, welcoming entry points. Existing players can tag and release unused discs, while curious park-goers tap to instantly learn about the disc, the course, and how to start playing—helping the sport grow from within the community.
